Verdict

This is a high-quality standing desktop converter for a fraction of the cost of an electric standing desk. And, because it has all of the necessary adjustment choices and is well-made, it is nearly ideal. It should be able to support all of your monitors and keyboard. It also works if you just have one monitor. However, it is especially useful if you want to employ a dual monitor configuration. I felt completely at ease when using it.

The Vari Pro Plus series features a well-functioning design and. The works and keyboards have a 5/8′′ pressboard and have been covered with a laminated finishing on the top, bottom, and all edges. Our test item was black but also available for purchase are white, Darkwood, and Butcher Block hues. The working surface and the keyboard deck have excellent redundant corners and a cut-out on the front area is the ideal size of your keyboard and mouse for an additional workplace. The finish is quite robust and after a few weeks of regular usage, one cannot say that it’s not brand new with the keyboard, mouse, laptop, display, or other devices. With rubber padded below the metal base legs of the Vari Pro Plus, the desk does not slide around on any surface it is put. The Vari website and the Pro Plus 36 model text are available in white on the outer side of every leg. When the Pro Plus is inserted within a thin metal part joins the two legs and sits just over your desk.

The keyboard deck with 14 screws and a metal bracket is connected to the surface of the work. A height adjustment stand mechanism loaded with a spring is then connected to the work surface. Two handles are on either side of the working area, and to the front, which is used to change the height by pressing them at the same time as the desk is lifted or lowered to the appropriate height. There are 11 heights at which the desk may be locked, including the fully lowered and elevated positions. When it is lifted it arcs back to where you typically sit and hang 10-14 inches across the edge of your desk so that you will have ample space for it.

The horizontal bar at the back of the height adjustment mechanism with loads of the spring is also neatly doubled with velcro or zip ties as support for cable control. It’s wise to tie your wires up so that if you lower your desk they won’t hang free and maybe get trapped. While the bar is not promoted as one, it certainly functions well as one, and some type of cable management channel along this bar may be a good idea for future versions.

Build Quality

Build Quality of Varidesk Pro Plus 36 Standing Desk

The ProPlus 36 is manufactured in China, although not at the top of the Chinese products, such as the QuickStand on a human scale. The metal is not dense and sturdy. The fibers on both platforms are of inferior quality and some of the edges on the bottom of the platform are quite sharp. A basic locking mechanism supports the adjustment stand process using springs. The handles are pressed to remove the locking pin from one of the holes in the locking bracket and to unlock the pin and lock the device. When they are pressed, the handles feel a little clumsy and sound with a loud click. When adjusting, the sources squeeze regularly and there is a strong snapshot when the locks snap after the unit has been adjusted.

Varidesk has tried to cover parts of the product’s inner workings by using plastic side panels with company branding. They also made sure that all black elements such as screws, brackets, and plastics were used to ensure that color contrasts were not observed in models such as kangaroos. A silver base with matching tubing and hardware will be available in the white finish. Although Varidesk ProPlus 36 is more comfortable in aesthetic terms than devices such as the Rocelco ADR or Halter ED-258, it does lag behind models such as WorkFit-T and Flexispot ClassicRiser.

The Height Adjusting Stand Desk: Varidesk Pro Plus 36

The Varidesk ProPlus 36 has a height adjustment. This is the only adjustment on the unit. To adjust the height, press both handles found on the underside of the monitor platform.  Pressing both handles will unlock the platforms and allow you to move the unit up or down between 11 different positions. Once you get to your desired height, release the handles to lock the unit in place. Since there are only 11 different positions to choose from, you may not be able to lock the unit in the exact position you’d like. You may need to move the platforms either up or down slightly to get the unit to lock.

It is important to note that the platforms adjust in an arcing pattern. The higher you raise the unit, the further the unit pushes you from your desk. Make sure that you have enough room behind your desk to make this adjustment. Also, make sure there are no objects behind you that could trip you as you step back when raising the unit.

The Vardesk ProPlus 36 is a very easy height adjustable standing desk. The handles are easy to press and the unit requires very little effort to move, in either direction. The product moves smoothly within a couple of seconds.

Stability of Varidesk Pro Plus 36 Standing Desk

Stability of Varidesk Pro Plus 36 Standing Desk

At the sitting height, the VarideskProPlus 36 is very stable. When sitting there is no side-by-side movement. If you are in the lower position, the keyboard tray will drop you to your current desk so there is no keyboard rebound. There are some monitor shakes, but they are quite little.

The stability at standing will unfortunately be one of the largest failures of ProPlus 36. The wobbling side-by-side will be rather excellent but the steady keyboard bounce is one of the worse I saw on a standing desk converter. This substantial quantity of keyboard bounce helps to shake the monitor a lot.

In terms of overall stability, The ProPlus 36 has several problems. One difficulty is, the ProPlus 36 only locks completely when it is in the lowest and highest position. Every intermediate position allows the platform to go up a bit rather than stay firm. The second question concerns the incoherence of the locking scheme. Sometimes, after you thought it was locked, she won’t totally lock it and move. The ultimate and most important issue is that the ProPlus 36 can advance and turn away from your desk. At its highest height, the desk is completely laden and the weight is large, rather than central, above the base. It’s possible that leaning on the desk or pressing too hard on the keyboard tray can cause problems.

The Footprint of Standing Desk

Footprint of Standing Desk

One of the major areas of worry will be the footprint of the ProPlus 36. The platforms extend far beyond the base in the sitting position. The platforms require a minimum area of 36″ W x 29.75″ D while the base is tiny enough to fit on a surface as large as 30″ W x 24″ D. The additional platform is in front and at the back of the platform. You cannot have a wall behind a 24-inch D desk or the legs of the base hang on the front.

The arc pattern indicates that you have to move to the highest height putting a bit more space behind you. When you’re at the highest pair of heights, you’ll be pushed from where you sit. For those with small rooms, this may be an issue.

Bottom Line

The ProPlus 36 is an easy choice if you want your product delivered completely built within a few business days by the world’s most known standing desk brand. The 30-day money-back guarantee is reassuring for those who are on the market, and their warranty assures that your purchase will last.

But for the same or less money, I believe that superior products are available. The problems of stability are a major worry and the small quantity of working area annoys. The range of adjustments is not adequate for many persons and the ProPlus 36 does not have double ergonomics. I believe that products such as FlexiSpot M2 and WorkFit-T have better value compared to Pro Plus 36. The addition of a monitor arm for dual ergonomics makes the price of the Pro Plus 36 a much better product than versions like the Ergotron WorkFit-S.

Finally, I think it is crucial that when you make your purchasing decision you determine the aspects that are most essential to you. In certain areas, the ProPlus 36 is outstanding while in others suffers. If you contemplate the ProPlus 36, I hope my evaluation helps to give some clarification.

FAQ

How do you install the VariDesk Pro Plus?

After tearing open the reassuringly solid packing, all you have to do now is pull out your VariDesk Pro Plus, and that’s pretty much it. Unlike other standing desk converters that require some assembly, the VariDesk Pro Plus arrives completely completed, except for the protective padding that is affixed to the device.
This all-in-one convenience has a drawback. The VariDesk Pro Plus is large and requires two people to transport. The 36-inch model I tested weighed 52.15lb (23.6kg), and while I was able to move it on my own, I would strongly advise seeking assistance if at all possible.

Is Varidesk a Good brand?

The Varidesk is well-made, has a high level of quality, and is highly strong and durable. I am confident that it will survive for many years… More information: The Varidesk Pro has a single adjustable standing desk surface as well as a lower level that rests directly on the desk with an extensible keyboard tray for times you wish to work sitting down.

How do I close Varidesk?

With the exception of a push-button electric model, all Varidesk models rely on springs and pistons to raise and lower the work surface. All you need to do is squeeze the handles on the underside of the desktop, push down, let go of the handles, and listen for the “click” to lower and lock your Varidesk in place.

Summary

In its price range, the Varidesk Pro Plus 36 Electric is one of the best electric standing desk converters we’ve encountered. While it does not break any new ground, it also does not have any major faults. Overall, in this new area of desktop converters, it’s a strong candidate for making the move to electric.
