The 2019 version of the Magnetic Bootcamp will happen on Thursday, January 24, 2019, in Orlando, Fla. In 2019, the Bootcamp will be shortened to five hours. It will follow the Magnetics conference, not precede it as in previous years. This new format has been installed by TWST, the new organizers of the Magnetics Conference.
The Magnetics Bootcamp focuses on teaching the basics of magnetics with an emphasis on permanent magnets. Those who need to understand magnets better for their job, want to understand the presentations at the Magnetics conference, or are new to the field will find the Magnetics Bootcamp is the perfect place to start. It assumes that attendees have little or no background in magnetics. The Bootcamp will cover all the essential fundamental magnetic concepts such as hysteresis, the nature of magnetism, units, magnet processing, thermal effects, magnetizing, self-demagnetization, measurements and case studies.
The course is taught by industry veteran Stan Trout. Stan’s professional life, just over forty years, has been almost evenly divided between the permanent magnet and rare earth industries. For the last sixteen years, he has run a consultancy called Spontaneous Materials, serving clients in these industries on a wide variety of technical and commercial projects. His previous employers include Molycorp, Magnequench, Hitachi Magnetics, Crucible Magnetics and Recoma.
Dr. Trout is a registered professional engineer, in Pennsylvania and Colorado holds a B.S. in Physics from Lafayette College and a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania in Metallurgy and Materials Science. He is a member of the MCMA, the UK Magnetics Society and a life senior member of the IEEE Magnetics Society.
