It is difficult to get the best graphics cards, but not impossible. The difficult problem is to find a new bundle of state-of-the-art silicon around the MSRP. Some sources indicate that costs might at least decline, however prices are considerably more than the factory ticket price, even with the most liberal estimation. It appears therefore that you may truly get the best graphics card today without needing to return it.
The graphics card industry may be the most competitive it’s been in a long time, thanks to Nvidia’s powerful Turing and Ampere GPUs and AMD’s designs utilizing a 7nm process. This competition implies a fantastic value for you as a customer, especially given the requirement for a graphics card. So you’ve arrived at the proper location if you’re wanting to suit your PC for one of its vital parts.
Graphics cards are available for a little over $300 and you can’t break the bank for 1440p at a high frame rate or even for the fully playable 4K. How to choose the best graphic card for yourself?
We have given a dozen choices for the finest graphics cards that allow us to overlap a lot. Nvidia’s Ampere architecture cards and AMD’s RDNA2 architecture products are the most recent generation GPUs. You may check our launch reviews with the Radeon RX 6900 XT, Radeon RX 6800 and RX 6800 XT, the GeForce RTX 3090, GeForce RTX 3080 Ti and GeForce RTX 3060 12GB for Nvidia, GeForce RTX 3080, GeForce RTX 3070 Ti, GeForce RTX 3070, GeForce RX 3070, and the Radeon RX 3060 12GB for Nvidia. For the first time, RDNA2 introduced Team Red support for ray tracing and significantly increased performance over the previous generation of GPUs. That’s 11 new GPUs in as many months, and we are expected to see other alternatives shortly with GA106 and Navi22 downscaled-down GPUs. Cards such as the RTX 3070 and RX 6800 cost less than 50% of the cost and typically correspond to the performance of the preceding RTX 2080 Ti. In the meanwhile, for less cash, the RX 6800 XT and RTX 3080 are 30 to 35% faster than the 2080 Ti, and 10 to 20% faster than the 3080. The RTX 3080 also has a larger spectrum of CPUs. Hint: in recent years you’ll want anything created with at least 6 cores and 12 threads, ideally.
Sadly, this is just in principle, since cryptocurrency mining in combination with already restricted delivery led to a huge increase in GPU costs. If you desire a graphics card with an RTX 30 series or an RX 6000 series, be patient and can purchase a card closer to the official MSRP. If you own a powerful GPU already, stick to it – or sell it for a premium and save money till prices fall.
You can’t neglect the CPU when your main objective is gaming. Getting the fastest gaming GPU available won’t assist you if your CPU is down-to-date or obsolete. See also the best Gaming CPUs page and our CPU benchmarks to ensure you have the appropriate CPU for the game you want.
The changes in the GPU market reflect our current recommendations and take account of all of the above information. The GPUs are mostly performance ordered, but pricing, functionality, and performance still contribute to a somewhat slower card. The top performance rankings were already massively upset and these are the finest graphics cards given that you have the different cards on the stock.
AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT:
The best GPU for Team Red is AMD’s Radeon RX 6800 XT. Technically speeding up the RX Radeon 6900 XT is at 5-7%, however, it costs 54% more. That’s not a lot, because you don’t have more VRAM or other things. The RX 6800 XT offers a considerable performance gain as well as features compared to the previous RX 5700 XT version. It provides support for ray tracking and is 70-90% quicker across our test suite. Also, you can see the Best Gaming Monitor for Xbox Series X
Before launch by the enthusiastic community, the GPU was lovingly called “Big Navi” and we did just what we desired. Navi21, with two shader centers and two RAMs, is more than double the size of Navi10. Clock rates have also increased to 2.1-2.3 GHz, with the highest clocking of about 300 MHz that we have ever observed on a reference GPU. The RX 6800 XT has a 300W TDP, slightly below that of the RTX 3080’s 320W TDP, and AMD accomplished it without significantly increasing its power needs.
Thanks to the huge 128MB Infinity Cache, AMD’s performance is great. It boosts the bandwidth effectively by 119%. There are few games we are certain that in the next several years, the 6800 XT will need more than 16GB.
How about what’s not? Well, radiation is somewhat mediocre before the performance. Perhaps it’s because current games are more likely to be tuned for Nvidia’s RTX GPUs, but generally, the RTX 3070 is barely ahead and there are several titles where it’s up to 25 percent behind. And without DLSS, which may boost the performance of RTX GPUs by 20-40% even in quality mode. AMD works on FidelityFX Super-Resolution for DLSS but is still not here, and it is extremely necessary.
|GPU||Navi 21 XT|
|Boost Clock||2,250 MHz|
|Video RAM||16GB GDDR6 16 Gbps|
- Excellent performance is provided by the new RDNA2 architecture
- In rasterization games, it outperforms the 3080
- 4K and 1440p resolutions are no problem
- There’s a lot of VRAM for the future
- Ray-tracing performance isn’t as good as it might be.
- There is currently no DLSS replacement, and FSR must be adopted.
- Supply may be much worse than Nvidia.
GeForce RTX 3080:
The updated and enhanced Ampere architecture sports Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 3080. It’s more than 30% quicker, for $500 less than the preceding 2080 Ti. Thanks to its much higher prices, the new RTX 3080 Ti could not replace the incumbent. If you take all graphics settings very seriously and wish to play in 4K or 1440p, it will be your card — it is mainly overkilled for 1080ps, but it still makes 1080p tolerable for all ray-tracing effects in games that offer that feature.
The RTX 30series might eventually bring you onboard the ray track if you have bypassed RTX GPUs for the first batch. The RTX 3080 is your best option to play games in all its glory and not nuking piggy banks, given the possibility of double Turing’s ray tracing performance and playing games like Cyberpunk 2077 with even more ray tracking effects.
Ampere also provides enhanced DLSS tensor cores, a technique that will show more in future games now, as a supercomputer does not require pre-game training. Nowadays we are seeing many more games utilizing the DLSS 2.0, helping to make it function in Unreal Engine. It is a toggle and UI update. The RT and DLSS performance of Nvidia is also a little faster than what you get from AMD’s new RX 6000, which is helpful since Nvidia lags in conventional rasterization.
RTX 3080 will, by far, be the largest issue to locate one in stock for costs that are not directly awful. Speculations about the impending RTX 3080 say that it is doubling VRAM to 20GB, while other rumors predict that 20GB cards will likely not come out for some time, due to component shortages.
|Boost Clock||1,710 MHz|
|Video RAM||10GB GDDR6X 19 Gbps|
- Outstanding performance
- In comparison to the 3090 and 6900 XT, it is reasonably priced.
- Can perform 4K ultra at 60 frames per second or more
- Significantly quicker than previous-generation GPUs
- The number of options available is quite restricted
- Power consumption is 320W
- For 1080p monitors, this is overkill
- VRAM is limited to 10GB
GTX 1650 Super:
The Budget GPUs frequently use outdated technology, and now that Ampere and RDNA2 have come, we’re one generation behind the competition. At least the GTX 1650 Super has now replaced the RX 570 4GB, for what felt like forever it was retailing $120-$130. With significantly less power, the 1650 Super produces roughly 30 percent greater performance. It cost at least 570 or more, it looks like the supply for the old AMD card has finally dried up.
Sadly, even inexpensive GPUs aren’t exempt from current shortages when the price is your primary concern. For GTX 1650 Super we used to see $150-$160 rates, but today you can hardly get a card for less than $300. We also saw other GPUs start to rocket in price, to the extent where the GTX 1660 Super is being impacted.
Nvidia with the newest NVENC hardware on 1650 Super is appreciated. This implies that if you want a budget-capable PC streaming this will be plenty for a lighter fare, especially for CSGO or LoL. It can also assist with video conference applications which in our COVID-pandemic environment are getting increasingly popular. You just require a power connector of 6 pins for the 1650 Super, as opposed to the previous-GTX 1050 cards.
|Boost Clock||1,725 MHz|
|Video RAM||4GB GDDR6 12 Gbps|
- Every game runs with a reasonable frame rate
- Architecture with a lot of efficiencies
- The most recent NVENC is excellent for video
- VRAM is limited to 4GB
- The cost of living has risen
- A 6-pin power connection is still required
AMD Radeon RX 6800:
Get all the best out of a new 6800 XT-powered Navi 21 GPU, then cut it by 10% and get the Vanilla RX 6800. The entire 16GB GDDR6 and 128MB Infinity Cache are still available, but just 96 ROP and a little lower clock speed. It’s a good compromise, but we believe that the 6800 XT is the superior alternative.
The RX 6800 also showcases the RTX 3070 of Nvidia. It’s 9 % quicker on our current 9-game test set. It cost 16% more, but we believe that VRAM is fair trade twice as much.
The main problems with the 6800 XT are the same: The performance of Ray Tracking appears a touch soft, mainly matching the RTX 2080 Super from Nvidia. There is still an issue in the absence of a DLSS alternative. For XDR performance, take the RTX 3070. The 3070 is 12% quicker without DLSS already. Switch to DLSS Quality mode and the difference grows to almost 50 percent! Also, without ray tracing, DLSS may be utilized and usually appears better than temporary AA.
So, AMD requires FidelityFX Super Resolution released and the functionality has to be implemented by Game Developers. It is open-source, plus AMD RDNA2 GPUs, which will likely see plenty of uptakes in every next-generation console… at last. Now, we would grab a further 6800 to rasterize and don’t care about the tracing of the ray. You can’t locate one in stock.
|GPU||Navi 21 XL|
|Boost Clock||2105 MHz|
|Video RAM||16GB GDDR6 16 Gbps|
- Overall, a fantastic performance
- Infinity Cache and a lot of VRAM
- In non-RT mode, it easily outperforms the 3070
- Good luck in your search
- RT performance is mediocre
- It will take some time for FSR to catch up to DLSS
- It doesn’t get any cheaper than the 6800 XT
GeForce RTX 3060 12GB:
Nvidia’s Ampere range is the lowest price and performance increase since the power reductions may have gone too far. The first GA106 card had a 192-bit and 12GB VRAM memory interface. However, with 26% fewer GPU cores than the 3060 TI and lower memory bandwidth, total performance is at RTX 2070 only. Two years and a half later, a $500 graphics card may now be matched by an alternative of $330.
Or the theory is that. Sadly, demand has overshadowed supply once again in large measure, as we find RTX 3060 12GB cards selling on eBay for more than $800. This despite the precautions taken by Nvidia, which were worthless when Nvidia punched his drivers, reducing Ethereum’s mining performance in half. Word is miners’ workaround already identified, and the pricing implies that this is the case.
VRAM capabilities are not at least an issue, and in certain situations, the 3060 12GB begins to close with the 3060 Ti. But it is never quite there and if you can get one at a fair price, the 3060 Ti remains the best option.
AMD’s Radeon RX 6700 XT has the same amount of VRAM, but it works much better with the huge 96MB Infinity Cache, costing a lot more. Perhaps next month the RX 6700 will be presenting some required competition in the sub-$400 category, but these will naturally also be sold out.
The RTX 3060 ends up performing in the same way that RX 5700 XT of AMD 18 months later if you reduce ray tracing and DLSS. Not something to ignite the globe, but it’s typical of popular portions. Only sooner rather than later can we expect supply and price returns to nominal levels.
|Boost Clock||1,777 MHz|
|Video RAM||12GB GDDR6 15 Gbps|
- Latest-generation GPU at the lowest price
- For 1080p/1440p, this is an excellent overall value
- There’s enough VRAM for the average user
- Mining has a limited appeal
- Overpriced and sold out
- Some people are interested in mining
- The performance of the new RTX 2070 is tied with that of the previous RTX 2070
- 12 GB of restricted use
