Is 2022 the year when the foldable PC makes its debut? Yes, if ASUS has anything to say about it. The ZenBook 17 Fold OLED, which will be unveiled at CES 2022 for the first time, is the company’s first foldable PC. And based on what we’ve seen so far, it’s going to kick some serious ass.

The actual release of the Asus ZenBook 17 Fold Hands-On Laptop isn’t expected until Computex in the summer in ASUS’ backyard in Taiwan, but it’s starting the year off well with a sneak peek. There’s still a lot we don’t know about it, but there are some nuggets to be excited about.

The Zenbook 17 Fold OLED, a 17.3-inch laptop with a foldable OLED screen, has arrived. A clamshell Zenbook 14 OLED is also coming later this year for those looking for a more conventional option.

The main advantage of a foldable device is that it makes it simpler to fit a bigger screen inside handbags and bags. A 17-inch tablet, no matter how tiny and light it is maybe difficult for many individuals to carry around. You can also fold it sideways at a 90-degree angle and use it as a small clamshell. You may unfold it and use it as a regular tablet, hold it up with a kickstand, or fold it sideways at a 90-degree angle and use it as a regular tablet.

This was one of the things I liked about Lenovo’s ThinkPad X1 Fold, which was their attempt at something similar. I appreciated being able to switch between settings based on what I was doing and where I was standing. However, the device’s tiny screen made it difficult to operate in clamshell form. The Zenbook 17 Fold, in theory, should fix that issue: When unfurled, it measures 4:3 17.3 inches by 3:2 12.3 inches by clamshell. That also frees up space for a larger keyboard — my second main gripe with the X1 Fold was its inconveniently tiny keyboard.

The Zenbook is equipped with Intel Core i7 U-Series CPUs from the 12th generation, as well as up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. It comes with Asus’ “ScreenXpert 2” software (which is also available on the company’s previous dual-screen devices) to let you divide and arrange the screen’s contents more simply.

Battery life is typically an issue with tiny, high-resolution devices. All those pixels eat up battery life, and a smaller gadget has less space for a huge brick. The X1 Fold was only around for a short time. The Zenbook 17, on the other hand, features a 75Wh battery. Of course, Asus hasn’t given a battery life estimate, but that’s a promising spec.

The Zenbook 17 Fold OLED will be released in Q2 2022 at an undetermined price.

This week, Asus unveiled a couple of additional OLED Zenbooks, including the Zenbook 14 OLED. This is an old-fashioned clamshell 14-inch laptop that might be used for business or education daily. It comes in a variety of hues, including Aqua Celadon, Ponder Blue, and Jade Black, and features a lid inspired by “ancient Japanese craftsmanship.”

The display on this Zenbook is 16:10, 2.8K, and runs at 90Hz. It’s available with an Intel Core i7 P-series processor or an AMD Ryzen 5000 processor. The audio has been approved by Harmon Kardon, according to Asus, and it will match the standards of Intel’s Evo program.

The Zenbook 14 OLED’s price has yet to be confirmed, however it will be available in Q2 of 2022.
