The LG 27GN950-B has just five meters on top and sides and ten meters on the bottom, it is the thinnest bezel that we have seen yet. It is closer to this aim, but not fully frameless, than anybody else we know about.
The styling is angular, with just enough softened edges to avoid being too harsh. Matte black in brushed and pebble finishes are standard. The bottom of the base has a red trim with LG and G-Sync logos prominently displayed.

Game Mode refers to image 8 of the monitors. Gamer 1, if your aim is the P3 gamut, is default and precise enough to be utilized without calibration. In the P3 gamut, color is always in any image mode. Choosing sRGB saturates somewhat but not as much as a pure SRGB display. We also reduced the contrast a bit to enhance gamma and address a 100% bright red clipping problem. It is necessary to recalibrate the white point with any modification to the gamma.
Some dynamic choices are provided with the 27GN950-B. You may just utilize the Local Dimming system, which looks very nice, given it comes from a box with Gamer 1 mode. The display is comparable to other IPS monitors, however, with a large P3 gamut coverage it offers a bit more color vibrancy. The contrast quadrupled with Local Dimming, and it shows. The color seemed brighter and the blacks looked deeper. Also without cutting, highlight and shadow details are usually retained. We witnessed it operate a couple of times when a small, luminous item was on a black background. Then, you could see a vertical band with a brighter backlight than the surrounding region. It is like the FALD Halo effect, but the Halo stretches the whole screen height occasionally. This has been an uncommon event.
This is one of the few displays that looks well in HDR mode when using Windows office programs. Although the color is a touch foggy, the contrast is excellent. You may also reduce the brightness if it appears too harsh. In HDR mode, the LG 27GN950-B is one of the few monitors we've encountered that allows you to adjust the brightness. The HDR Effect mode is an alternative to this. At its default brightness level of 100, it's blindingly bright. However, lowering the brightness to 26 makes it more bearable. Here, users have many nice and useful alternatives.
Much the same experience with SDR gaming. When an extra color is available, Tomb Raider always looks fantastic. The LG 27GN950-B is very much available. We kept in mode Gamer 1 and turned on Local Dimming. The contrast was excellent, and the color was quite pleasant. Motion processing was perfect while we played at 110 fps.
The GeForce GTX 1080 Ti cannot handle 4K on 144 Hz in our test setup since DisplayPort 1.4 is lacking. But the LG 27GN950-B ran well at 120 Hz, and the game's details have never been maximized to 120 fps. The full 144 Hz is possible as the card supports DisplayPort 1.4 and Display Stream Compression when playing Radeon RX 5700 XT. But Adaptive-Sync was completely functional in both situations.
When it came to Call of Duty: WWII and its HDR feature, we were blown away. Highlights were brilliant and vibrant, while shadows were black and detailed. The 27GN950-B is a fantastic alternative to a more costly FALD display if you're looking for an HDR monitor. On our RX 5700 XT-based system, we played with HDR and 144 Hz, but in-game rates never topped 110 fps. The GTX 1080 Ti platform was no exception. The LG 27GN950-B, one of the fastest 4K monitors at 144 Hz, provides accurate color and outstanding HDR at a lower price than a top-of-the-line FALD display. For gaming, the LG 27GN950-B is excellent. The screen tears are reduced with a high 160Hz recovery rate and VRR support. The reaction time and reduced input latency are excellent if you play at its 60Hz maximum refresh rate. Sadly, because of its poor contrast and awful black uniformity, it's not a suitable choice for darkroom gaming.
