There was a problem filtering reviews right now. Please try again later.
- The media keys at the top are very much appreciated and are THE primary reason why I bought this keyboard because media keys on a 10-keyless keyboard were unheard of before this.
- Many, many more positive things to say about this. Everything else I could say positive has already been said so well in other reviews. This review is focused on the info I felt was missing from the reviews I had read before purchasing.
Cons:
- It doesn't use USB-C to charge. It's stuck in the past with Micro-USB. I know it clearly states this on the product page, but it's not like this is an old keyboard. And it's not like it's any more expensive to use USB-C. Everything should be switching to USB-C. I don't care what the excuse is.
- The media keys are so shallow compared to the rest of the keys that it feels like I'm reaching over a mountain to press them.
Cons that didn't lose it any points:
- I would have preferred this keyboard to be available with Cherry MX Speed switches because I prefer it to be more shallow key travel for keys that don't have any bump or click to them, but I didn't dock any stars because of that because I knew exactly what I was getting into with the Red switches.
- It was a bit odd that the keys are labeled with its primary function on top and it's Shift function label on the bottom. It has caused me to confuse some infrequently used keys like the =/+ key. I wanted to type an "=", so held shift I as I pressed it because the "=" label was on top. Even as I typed this out, I accidentally typed + every time I tried to type "=".
- It doesn't have RGB lighting, but that's to be expected from a wireless keyboard. (I'm mostly a touch typist except when it comes to keys out of the way like that. It would be a worse problem if I was not a touch typist at all.)
- The media key switches feel like they are membrane, not mechanical, but I'm not going to dock points because I'm just happy that they are there on a 10-keyless keyboard.
- The hand rest that comes with the keyboard is pretty much useless...at least for gaming...because the keys are so tall and the hand rest is so narrow, that if my wrist is resting on them, my hand is far too close to the keyboard so it makes it hard to curl my pinky to press shift and ctrl without moving my hand off the rest.
- I had some technical issues with the iCUE software that caused it to crash every time I tried to go into the "Lighting Effects" page. I contacted their support and they eventually suggested using the free version of Revo Uninstaller to fully uninstall iCUE and reinstall it. Doing that worked, and I also used that tool to solve a couple of other computer problems I had been having.
Conclusion:
This review focused on a lot the negatives, but regardless, I think it's a great keyboard. Use this review only as a supplement with other reviews that do a better job at explaining all the positive aspects of the keyboard.
However the wireless and iCUE is really garbage:
- Bluetooth: It drops connection sometimes (I use Intel Bluetooth)
- Wireless Receiver: It improves a little bit, until you get connection dropouts again, and losing typing information (the receiver is just 10-12 inches away from the keyboard)
- THE WORST: iCUE is Corsair's keyboard configuration software. But it is excessively bloated.
It installs at least 4 services to your Windows machine, including a Corsair Gaming Audio Configuration Service. I really don't understand why a headset needs a "configuration service" running on the background, plus WHY A KEYBOARD needs a "gaming audio configuration service"?
This service creates a huge problem for me. I am using a USB audio interface from Native Instruments. This service will causes all 3D applications (including PC games) I play stop responding for 5-8 minutes when started (or no audio), because it tries to intercept all audio channels going through USB and gets stuck (causing app's audio thread exceptionally quit. Maybe because I didn't buy their headsets so I got punished).
The problem is that you have to use iCUE software to update keyboard firmware, or set up keyboard parameters (backlight pattern, key assignments, etc.). So you have to know how to disable its bloated services in Windows in order to avoid the USB audio issues.
As a developer I do know how Windows works, so I can deal with it (spent 1-2 weeks). But I don't think this is good for normal users.
And because of this, this is definitely a 1/5 product for me regardless of the keyboard itself. I treat drivers/configuration software as a part of this product.

I was concerned about the cherry red switches, since I like to keep noise at a minimum, but I listened to quite a few youtube videos (you need to hear the sound of a switch with a cap on to really understand what it will sound like), and realized that the "silent red" switch was not for me. I am glad I opted for the red one: I find my experience quite enjoyable! The keyboard is quite responsive and I actually like the sound the switches are making.
I can't comment much on the battery: it's been two days since the first charge and the gauge says "moyen" (I would prefer a number, but nothing is perfect), which is what I was expecting.
I use a KVM switch, and the proprietary software used to configure the keyboard is interfering with it, so I plugged a USB hub in the general purpose 2.0 USB port and put my two wireless receivers on it. So far so good!

Installation was very easy and quick, as was initial charging. Once you have downloaded the iCue software you have a few options for the LED settings. I was a little disappointed that you could not set specific keys to be illuminated, but this was a small niggle. A comprehensive array of macros can be set using the software, making the keyboard very flexible.
Average battery life with LEDs on is around 24 hours and with LEDs off is around 72 hours.
For the price, I think this is one of the best mechanical gaming keyboards out there and would thoroughly recommend it.
