Update: it is now 4.5 years later (08/11/23), and the Motorola MG7700 is still working as well as it did when it was brand new. I have had no issues with this modem/router whatsoever. The internet speed (now upgraded to 300 mbps), and the wired and wireless connections are still as fast and stable as ever. The only very rare internet lapses are on the ISP's side. The only addition I have made to the MG7700 is attaching a USB powered, 120mm computer chassis fan to the outside of the MG7700 (blowing air on the motherboard/transceiver chipset side). This helps to keep the MG7700 cool 24/7. Heat is the worst enemy of a router, and all computer equipment in general. Keeping the MG7700 cool will keep connections stable, and greatly increase its longevity. As I originally stated in this review 4.5 years ago, the Motorola MG7700 is a great product, and I highly recommend it (and its newer successors) even more now.
It just works and works well.
BUT . . . the wifi signal can not compare to an independent router.
I replaced this with the Motorola MB7621 -- basically the same modem as the MG7700 but without the built in router, and connected it to the TP-Link AX5400 WiFi 6 Router (the combination costs $100 more in total than this MG7700) and the resulting wifi speeds were incomparable.
With the MB7621 and the TP Link router I am now getting 335 Mbps next to the router - about 4x the speed I was getting in the same spot with the MG7700 [this product], and next to the bathroom which is at the opposite end of a U shaped 1,000 sq ft apartment (around a bend at the opposite end of a U shaped hallway) the MB7621 & TP Link router are getting 60 Mbps where the MG7700 was getting 15-20.
The MG7700 [this product] costs $170 (at the time of this review)
The MB7621 costs $75 and the TP-Link AX5400 costs $195.
Pairing the MB7621 with the TP-Link AX5400 WiFi 6 Router ($270 total) costs $100 more than the MG7700 2 in 1 ($170), and the wifi speeds are about 4x.
If you don't have very demanding wifi needs, and just need a decent signal that doesn't need to reach particularly far this is a very decent product does quite well at a competitive price.
If you do need/want wifi that is faster and reaches further, The MB7621 paired with the TP-Link AX5400 Router are in a whole different category of reach and speed for an additional cost of $100 ($270 vs $170).
Overall the modem works well. A bit spotty when connecting on the lower floor so I got an extender which is hit and miss so my coverage is slow. I usually can live with the slow connections so it is not a bit deal for me. Good product.
