Siemens Energy & Automation, Inc. has introduced the space saving SITOP Modular 3-phase 24VDC/ 20A power supply. Less than half the width of previous models, the new power supply is ideal for applications demanding small footprints. Siemens SITOP Marketing Manager Kai-Uwe Bronzel says the size of the footprint has become one of the most important purchasing criteria for automation and controls components. By reducing the width from 160mm (6.3”) to 70mm (2.76”), the new switched mode power supply is one of the most compact power supplies available today.
The wide input voltage range from 360 VAC to 550VAC covers the most common 3-phase networks worldwide and helps the customer save even more space. Customers appreciate the advantage of additional space and cost savings of three-phase power supplies, that convert industry-standard 3-phase 480 VAC into 24 VDC without the need for additional step-down- transformers, Bronzel said.
Trouble free load start up with high inrush current — required with DC/DC converters, DC motors and solenoids — are achieved with extra power of 150% of the rated output current for up to five seconds per minute and power boost of 300% of the rated output current for up to 25 milliseconds. If a parallel connection is required, the load sharing option can be selected, guaranteeing that each of the two power supplies, set up in parallel operation, provides the loads with 50% of the required total current. Weighing only 1.2 kg (2.65 lb), the new 93% efficient power supply also offers an improved ambient temperature range from -10oC (14o F) to 60oC (140o F), without de-rating.
Additionally, optional SITOP power security components (monitoring-, backup-, redundancy-, selective circuit protection) may be added to improve safety and efficiency of critical 24 VDC load circuits.
