Power supply inside
New for power inductor and module supplier Sumida, is the implementation of small coils in active wireless charging applications. The company also demonstrated molded inductors with composite materials instead of ferrite resulting in smaller form factors.
Also on display was the psi2 (Power Supply in Inductor) A coil is embedded in a magnetic material and then pressed into the power supply components, creating a full power supply inside the inductor. According to the company, this technology offers key advantages over more traditional approaches:
The full-size inductor has the lowest possible losses, giving the module a very high efficiency.
The magnetic material provides shielding to minimize noise and EMI.
The magnetic material has good thermal conductivity, avoiding any hot spots in the module.
