Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. introduced a new surface-mount solution for automotive applications that is the industry’s first standard rectifier and transient voltage suppressor (TVS) two-in-one device. Featuring an oxide planar chip junction design and a common cathode circuit configuration, the Vishay General Semiconductor R3T2FPHM3 combines a 3 A, 600 V standard rectifier with a 200 W TRANSZORB TVS in the compact FlatPAK 5 x 6 package.

With a wide temperature range from -55 °C to +175 °C, the device released today is suitable for high-reliability automotive applications, including secondary protection for sensor units, distributed airbag modules, and low-power DC/DC converters in power distribution systems. By combining two different technologies in a single package, the dual-chip solution saves PCB space, simplifies layouts, and lowers overall costs in these applications. When paired in series with a standard TVS, the R3T2FPHM3 offers designers a complete > 24 V solution with a low clamping ratio.

The two-in-one device’s rectifier features a low forward voltage drop of 0.86 V to reduce power losses and improve efficiency, while its TVS offers a breakdown voltage of 27 V. The R3T2FPHM3 provides ESD capability in compliance with IEC 61000-4-2, air discharge and contact mode; it offers an MSL moisture sensitivity level of 1, per J-STD-020, LF maximum peak of 260 °C; and its molding compound features a UL 94 V-0 flammability rating. RoHS-compliant and halogen-free, the device is available in an AEC-Q101-qualified version.

Samples and production quantities of the R3T2FPHM3 are available now, with lead times of 12 weeks. Pricing for U.S. delivery starts at $0.80 per piece.

ProTek Devices has introduced a couple of TVS components targeted at delivering circuit protection across a variety of electric vehicle (EV) systems including hybrid electric vehicles, charging systems, and automotive electronic control units (ECU). One is a 7,000 Watt TVS component and the other is 11,000 Watts.

The 7,000 Watt TVS is the PAM7KSMDJ24CAP and is suited for circuit protection across the belt starter (BSG) generator circuit, the integrated starter generator (ISG) circuit, and hybrid electric vehicles at large. The 11,000 Watt TVS is the PAM11KLD8S24CAP, and it is ideal for delivering circuit protection in automotive ECUs.

The PAM7KSMDJ24CAP and PAM11KLD8S24CAP each share achieving AEC-Q101 standards qualification. Both components also allow bidirectional configuration and are RoHS and REACH compliant. They also boast a competitively very low clamping voltage.

In addition, the PAM7KSMDJ24CAP is also IEC compatible with standards 61000-4-2 (ESD), 61000-4-4 (EFT), and 61000-4-5 (surge). It is a glass passivated chip offering 7,000 Watts peak pulse power per line (typical = 10/1000 microseconds) and providing low leakage current.

Meanwhile, the PAM11KLD8S24CAP possesses a junction passivation-optimized design with passivated anisotropic rectifier technology. The operating junction temperature equals 175 degrees Celsius capability, ensuring suitability for high reliability and automotive requirements. This TVS features 11,000 Watts peak pulse power per line (typical = 10/1000 microseconds) and is high surge capable. In addition, the PAM11KLD8S24CAP meets standards ISO 16750-2 surge specification (varied by test condition) and MSL level one, per J-STD-020, LF maximum peak of 245 degrees Celsius.

ProTek Devices’ new TVS components both have a flammability rating of UL 94V-0. The PAM7KSMDJ24CAP is provided in a molded JEDEC DO-214AB package with an approximate weight of just 0.248 grams. Other mechanical characteristics include lead-free pure-tin plating (annealed) and a solder reflow temperature of (pure-tin – Sn, 100) 260-270 degrees Celsius. The terminal is solderable per MIL-STD-750, method 2026. The PAM7KSMDJ24CAP is provided on 16mm tape and reel, per EIA standard 481, in minimum quantities of 3,000.

The PAM11KLD8S24CAP is provided in a DO-218AB package with an approximate weight of only 2.985 grams. The terminals have matte tin-plated leads that are solderable per standards J-STD-002 and JESD 22-B102. For polarity the heatsink is anode. The PAM11KLD8S24CAP has a solder reflow temperature of 260 degrees Celsius for 10 seconds at the terminals. It is offered on 24mm tape and reel, per EIA standard 481, in minimum quantities of 750.

Diodes Incorporated has announced its new bidirectional transient voltage suppressor (TVS) diode, addressing market demands for a robust protection for high-speed data ports. The D3V3Z1BD2CSP is designed to offer protection from both electrostatic discharge (ESD) strikes and surge events. The main applications for this device are the I/O ports in high-performance computing hardware, smartphone handsets, laptop and tablet computers, displays, and gaming consoles.

While many competing products must make design trade-offs, either having strong surge protection properties or low input capacitance, the D3V3Z1BD2CSP can deliver both benefits simultaneously. Its ultra-low capacitance of 0.3pF (typical) ensures that signal integrity is maintained by not interfering with or impeding high-speed data communication. Its high peak pulse current (10.5A typical) and low clamping voltage (5.3V) safeguards I/O ports and their sensitive electronics from transient voltages. The risk of electrical overstress damage from activities such as frequent hot swapping is therefore avoided. Complying with the IEC61000-4-2 immunity standard, the D3V3Z1BD2CSP provides robust ESD protection against ±20kV air and contact discharges, thereby improving system reliability.

The D3V3Z1BD2CSP can be used to protect I/O interfaces, such as USB Type-C, DisplayPort, HDMI, and SD-Card, carrying high-speed data rates up to 20Gbps. Its broad operating temperature range, from -55˚C to +150˚C, ensures continued protection even in challenging application environments.

The D3V3Z1BD2CSP TVS from Diodes is supplied in an extremely compact DSN0603 wafer-level chip-scale package, that measures just 0.6mm x 0.3mm x 0.3mm. It is available at $0.049 each in 10,000-piece quantities.
