Bourns, Inc. announced its Model BVRA Series AEC-Q200 compliant, automotive grade multilayered varistors. These new low-voltage varistors feature excellent transient energy absorption due to improved energy volume distribution and power dissipation. Designed specifically for use in automotive circuits requiring surge protection, the new series can also be applied to protect other integrated circuits and components such as power supplies, entertainment electronics, and CAN, LIN, and FLEXRAY-based modules.

The Model BVRA Series is available with working voltages from 5.5 to 85 VDC and provides a quick response time of less than 0.5 ns to help ensure prompt energy diversion during transient events. Offered in a range of compact 0402, 0603, 0805 and 1206 SMD packages, Bourns new varistors have an insulator overcoat designed to help enhance efficiency and streamline integration. In addition, these models meet the IEC 61000-4-5 standard, and deliver stable leakage current for a high reliability, consistent overvoltage protection solution.

The Bourns Model BVRA AEC-Q200 compliant, automotive grade multilayered varistor series is available now and is RoHS* compliant and lead free.

KYOCERA AVX has extended its AntennaGuard range of proven, high-performance, and ultralow-capacitance products with two new 0402 multilayer varistors (MLVs) that meet IEEE 100BASE-T1 and 1000BASE-T1 testing requirements.
The new ASPGuard Series MLVs have small, ultralow-profile, surface-mount packages optimized for high-density designs and exhibit high current and energy handling capabilities, bidirectional overvoltage protection, super-fast, sub-nanosecond response times, and multi-strike capabilities. They also provide EMI/RFI attenuation in their off state, which can reduce or even eliminate the need for additional EMC capacitors, and offer lower insertion loss, lower leakage current, and unrivaled reliability compared to competing diode solutions. In addition, they are qualified to OPEN (One-Pair Ethernet) Alliance standards for automotive Ethernet applications and AEC-Q200.
Ideal applications for the ASPGuard Series include automotive Ethernet networks, IoT devices, industrial automation and control systems, robotics, RF and optical circuits, sensors, high-speed data lines, antennas, radar, Bluetooth devices, and other capacitance-sensitive, high-density applications in the automotive, industrial, and consumer electronics markets.
Available in ultraminiature 0402 and 0603 case sizes with maximum respective heights of just 0.5±0.10mm and 0.80±0.15mm, KYOCERA AVX’s ASPGuard Series MLVs are rated for working voltages extending from 18–70VDC, capacitance values ranging from just 1.5–4.7pF, energy transients spanning 0.02–0.04J, 1–3A of peak current, and operating temperatures as low as -55°C and as high as +150°C. The series also delivers up to 25kV of electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection per IEC 61000-4-2 and meets 48VDC jump start requirements.
Currently, both new ASPGuard Series MLVs qualified for the OPEN Alliance standard are only available in the 0402 packages. The first (VCAS04AP701R5YAT) is rated for 70VDC and 1.55pF with a ±0.13pF capacitance tolerance and is designed for use in 1000BASE-T1 Gigabit Ethernet applications, while the second (VCAS04AP704R7LAT) is rated for 70VDC and 4.7pF with a ±1pF capacitance tolerance and designed for use in 100BASE-T1 (100Mb/s) automotive Ethernet applications.
ASPGuard Series MLVs are also equipped with RoHS-compliant nickel/tin terminations and packaged on 7” or 13” reels in quantities of 4,000 or 10,000 pieces for compatibility with automated processing equipment. Lead-time for the series is currently 16 weeks.

TDK Corporation presents the EPCOS B72307S0* (StandarD S07 Compact Series) and B72310S0* (StandarD S10 Compact Series) series of extremely compact, leaded disk varistors. The new varistors cover a wide voltage range from 115 V RMS to 460 V RMS in the StandarD S07 Compact series and from 130 V RMS to 680 V RMS in the StandarD S10 Compact series. The maximum surge current capability of a single pulse current (8/20 µs) is up to 1200 A for the StandarD S07 Compact types, and up to 2500 A for the StandarD S10 Compact types. They offer a multiple surge current capability of 500 A (StandarD S07 Compact) or 1500 A (StandarD S10 Compact), according to UL 1449, 4th edition, type 5 listed. The varistors can be operated up to an ambient temperature of 105 °C without derating.

Like the proven models of the classic StandarD S07 and S10 series, the optimized types also feature the same outstanding performance and long-term reliability. The reduced disc diameters of 8.5 mm in the StandarD S07 Compact series and 11 mm in the StandarD S10 Compact series allow even greater flexibility. The coating of the discs consists of a flame-retardant synthetic resin according to UL 94 V-0. The SIOV varistors are certified according to UL, CSA, VDE, and IEC.

PSpice models are available for all products in the StandarD S07 and S10 Compact series.

The optimized compact design and excellent electrical characteristics enable the space-saving use of the S07 and S10 StandarD Compact types in numerous applications such as LED lighting, switching power supplies, and household applications such as microwaves and refrigerators.
