Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. introduced the industry’s first 1 Form A solid-state relay to offer AEC-Q102 qualification and a 100 V load voltage. Offered in the low profile SOP-4 package, the Vishay Semiconductors VORA1010M4 delivers the industry’s fastest turn-on and turn-off times of 0.1 ms typical, in addition to the highest operating temperature of +125 °C.

The fast turn-off time of the optically isolated device released today is a result of its integrated turn-off circuit, while its combination of a state-of-the-art infrared emitter and photovoltaic diode array delivers its fast turn-on time. This switching performance makes the solid-state relay ideal for safety-critical applications, while its compact SOP-4 package saves space over competing solutions in the DIP-4 package.

Offering an isolation voltage of 3750 VRMS, the Automotive Grade VORA1010M4 is designed to provide clean, bounce-free switching for glass dimming, lighting control, inverters, motor controls, and battery management systems (BMS) in electric (EV) and hybrid electric (HEV) vehicles; industrial motor drives and controls; security and automation systems; and telecom servers and data centers.

Available in tape-and-reel packing, the device is RoHS-compliant, halogen-free, and Vishay Green.

Samples and production quantities of the VORA1010M4 are available now, with lead times of eight weeks.

Marktech Optoelectronics has introduced new Series 4 silicon photodiodes with improved response speed. These photodiodes offer a response time of 25ns compared to the 80ns of current Series 4 PDs with the same active area. The new silicon photodiodes feature reduced junction capacitance (Cj), which improves response time, frequency response, and bandwidth. This is achieved through enhanced photodiode design configurations and Series 4 silicon process technology improvements.
Marktech offers both standard and isolated versions of these photodiodes. The isolated version uses a ceramic submount to insulate the detector chip from the metallic TO package, reducing noise during detection. This makes them suitable for environments where signal integrity is crucial.
The new high-speed photodiodes are designed for applications such as cameras, video imaging systems, optical communication, biomedical imaging, security systems, night vision devices, gas sensing, and motion detection. They are effective in monitoring rapidly pulsed LED and laser light sources, spectroscopy, flame and gas monitors, motion and presence sensors, medical diagnostic devices, fluorometers, currency validators, and automotive ADAS sensors.
Key features include low junction capacitance for enhanced response time and bandwidth, high-speed response for rapid detection and signal processing, and an isolated version for reduced noise. The photodiodes are versatile and suitable for various applications requiring quick light-to-electrical signal conversion.
Two specific models are available: the MT03-084 and MT03-083. Both feature a square 15mm² active area Silicon Photodiode optimized for high sensitivity in the 300 to 560nm region (UVA, Blue & Green). The MT03-084 comes in an isolated, hermetic TO-5 package with a UV transmitting glass window, while the MT03-083 is in a hermetic TO-5 metal can package without an isolating ceramic submount.

Nexperia announced the addition of two new ideal diode ICs to its continuously growing portfolio of power devices. The NID5100 is suitable for standard industrial and consumer applications while the NID5100-Q100 has been qualified for use in automotive applications. Ideal diodes are MOSFET based devices that offer much lower forward voltage drop than traditional diodes and make the perfect replacement option to standard diodes in systems where power efficiency is paramount.

The NID5100 and NID5100-Q100 ideal diodes are available in small TSSP6/SOT363-2 leaded plastic packages measuring only 2.1 mm x 1.25 mm x 0.95 mm. Applications that can benefit from the superior electrical performance of the NID5100 ideal diodes include smart meters, fire/security sensors, battery-powered wearables, and automotive telematics units.

The NID5100 is a PMOS based ideal diode where the gate voltage of an internal MOSFET regulates the ‘anode’ to ‘cathode’ voltage to be eight to ten times lower than the forward voltage drop of similarly rated Schottky diodes. Besides the low forward drop, the MOSFET based ideal diode also helps to reduce reverse DC leakage current by up to 100 times compared to a typical Schottky diode.

Unlike other competitive ideal diodes, the NID5100 supports “OR-ing” multiple power supplies while retaining reverse polarity protection and provides ultra-fast response time for smooth power transfer. Nexperia’s ideal diode offers other advantages, such as a forward regulation voltage of 31 mV (typ), the ability to handle forward current up to 1.5 A, and an automatic transition between OR-ed supplies. It operates within a voltage range of 1.2 V to 5.5 V and has impressively low current consumption, with a 3.3 V VIN shutdown current of just 170 nA and a quiescent current of 240 nA. The diode further includes reverse voltage protection with an absolute maximum rating of -6 V and an output status indication (ST), making it a robust and efficient choice for power management applications.
