The benefits of film capacitors
Electronic Concepts Inc., Eatontown, NJ, spent time at the show explaining the benefits of using film capacitors, such as this 0.01 uf 5PT Series polyproylene “sugar-cube” version, in power supplies. The company says film capacitors do cost more per uF than electrolytic capacitors, but the amount of capacitance necessary for an inverter bus link capacitor design can be much less when using a film cap than with an electrolytic version. The reason: The film cap isn’t limited by its ripple current rating, as is the case with an electrolytic device.
