SiC power modules
One of the big themes of ECCE was the application of SiC power semiconductors. Among the suppliers showing SiC devices was Powerex, Youngwood, Pa. Here, Powerex’s Eric Motto shows a dual SiC MOSFET module plucked from the booth display. Motto also gave a presentation during the show explaining, among other things, the difference between a SiC hybrid power module (contains a Si IGBT and a SiC barrier diode) and an ordinary SiC power module (SiC FET and diode). Hybrid devices are generally specified for lower costs while all-SiC devices have a lower turn-off loss, Motto explained.
